If one has a 1080p LCD screen the number of pixels the screen usually will have 1920 pixels in length and 1080 pixels in width. The 1080p means that there are 1080 lines of vertical resolution on the LCD screen.

What pixel resolution is normal for an LCD television?

Not all HD tv's are high defintiion, but a 720p LCD does 1280x720, for a total of 921,600 pixels and an 1080p tv is 1920×1080, or 2,073,600 pixels in total.

What are the bare minimum characteristics of Full HD plasma TV?

An HD television is one that is capable of displaying an HD signal. The signal will be either a 1080 line or a 720 line format - both are HD signals. It is this ability that defines a television as HD but that ability can be deceptive. Almost all HD content uses a format of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Every pixel carries a small part of the image. A television that has 1920 x 1080 pixels on its own screen will display the full image with every pixel as it was broadcast. However, many televisions have a different number of pixels making up their displays. 1280 x 768 is a common pixel layout, especially on smaller screens. In order to display a 1080 line display, the television has to process the image to change the number of pixels in the image. So, instead of seeing 1080 lines, the television will actually show just 768 lines. It's still a good resolution but it's not the full resolution of the incoming signal. In other words, the final picture is a lower resolution than full HD. The television can still be labelled as HD because it can handle HD signals. One television was seen on sale as an HD television but the screen in fact had only 480 lines - exactly the number of lines used in standard definition signals. Although the television was correctly labelled as HD, the final quality would always be SD because that's how many lines actually made up the image on screen. The claim was deceptive, even if technically correct. Therefore, for best resolution, always check the native screen resolution and look for 1920 x 1080.

Which passive 3D TVs are full HD 1080p?

Passive 3D televisions are normally 1080 line. However, the image is split into left and right images so the effective resolution becomes half the full HD resolution, namely 540 line. So although they can claim to be full HD, they have a total of 1080 lines, the viewer sees only half the full resolution.

What is the top resolution output from a Blu-ray player and disc?

The highest HD resolution is 1080p (or 1080 pixels) and in order to get the best HD from the Blu-Ray disc, the TV's resolution should be 1080p as well. A lower native resolution television will reduce the effective resolution.

Do blu ray players work with 720p HD tv's?

Yes they can. They will operate on any HD television although a television with a native resolution of 1080 lines will provide a higher quality image for any Bluray disc that uses 1080 content.

What resolution is television broadcast in?

What is the difference between a true HD TV and an HD ready TV?

Many LCD and plasma televisions are labelled as HD ready. What it means is that the television will display an HD signal but the image may not be HD quality. All LCD and plasma televisions have a native pixel count. Many are 768 lines for example. In order to display an HS signal, the HD format of 1080 line or 720 line needs to be changed to fit the screen. While the loss of resolution from 1080 to 768 lines isn't particularly significant, there is still a loss of quality. There have been LCD televisions sold as HD ready despite the fact that they only have 480 lines. Although the HD signal will be displayed, it is less than half the number of lines of 1080. As 480 line is the standard definition NTSC format, the quality can only ever be SD quality. It is generally accepted that a true HD television will have 1080 lines (or sometimes, 720 lines). When displaying a 1080 image on a 1080 screen, there is no loss of quality but if the size needs to be changed, the conversion process always has an adverse effect on the image, even if very slight. Beware - some retailers will suggest that a television is true HD even though it does not have a 1920 x 1080 pixel format. ALWAYS ask to see the specification before committing to spending a lot of money. If the retailer cannot or will not tell you the native resolution of a display, walk away and find another retailer. And a different answer, I think the HD ready set does not have a built-in tuner and needs to be connected to a cable or satellite converter box. The HDTV is a complete television set with a built-in tuner.

Is using a blu ray player with a 720p tv worth it?

720p is one of the HD formats so it will display HD quality. Although most Bluray content is generated as a 1080 signal, some is produced as 720p. Either will work on any HD television although using a television with a native 1080 line display will deliver the best resolution available for any current HD content.

I have two options in my mind either to go for Full HD LCD TV or Ready HD LCD TV So what to you say?

I guess Full HD TV could be the best because in Full HD you will get better resolution up to 1080 pixels, higher refresh rate and contrast ratio.

If you only intend to watch terrestial and freeview but not sky or virgin which type tv would it be best to buy HD ready or full HD?

The difference between HD ready and full HD is fairly subtle. To display standard definition signals, there will be little difference between any model of HD television but the difference is described here... Normal HD resolution uses 1080 lines to build the complete picture. Most HD signals are broadcast in that format (the alternative is 720 line but it rarely used). A full HD television should have a native screen resolution of 1080 lines and will be advertised as 1080i or 1080p native resolution. By contrast, other HD ready televisions may not use 1080 lines for the display and the incoming signal will be processed and resized to fit the lower resolution. Typical line counts are 768 or 900. The end result is still good quality but the effective resolution is reduced to the number of lines on the display. Freeview (The British digital terrestrial television service) is currently broadcasting in standard definition only. Therefore, with a line count of 576, the native display resolution will be higher on any HD ready or full HD television. The resolution of the image is NOT increased by displaying it on a higher resolution screen. However, Freeview is planning to begin HD broadcasting during 2010. Current Freeview receivers will not be compatible and will need to eb replaced with HD compliant receivers. Likewise, British televisions do not currently have HD Freeview receivers built in. No doubt they will incorporate HD Freeview during 2010. If the television is to be used for HD Freeview in the future it may be worth looking at 1080 line displays as they are potentially the best image quality. Before buying any television, it is worth looking at them first. Regardless of the specification, some look better than others. As we tend to spend many hours looking at our purchase, it is only sensible to make sure it is the picture that we like best.

Do you need a 1080p tv to watch Blu-ray discs?

There are several HD television formats, all agreed with the international standards organisations. The main formats are 720p 1080i and 1080p. Virtually all HD televisions will handle all formats although some of the earliest HD televisions don't operate with 1080p signals. Later televisions are capable of displaying 1080p as well as other formats. Every HD television has a native resolution. Often, the screen is made up with 1920 x 1080 pixels. All incoming signals are resized to the native resolution. A 720 line signal will be processed to be displayed on the 1080 lines of the display. Similarly, a 1080 line image will be resized to display on 720 or 768 lines if that is the television's native resolution. Therefore, an LCD television with a native screen resolution of 720 lines will be capable of displaying a 1080 line image.
