input hardware are things like: mouse, keyboard, scanner, joystick, etc

output hardware are things like: monitor, printer, and any other peripheral device that presents output from the computer.

don't confuse CD, DVD, hard drive, etc with output devices, though. they receive output from the computer but are classified as storage.

Input hardware is that which you use to input data into a computer (primarily a keyboard and mouse, but may also be a microphone, webcam, touchpad, etc.). Output hardware is used by the computer to relay information to you (monitor and speakers/headphones).
