Not much. Coal isn't digested and it contains no toxins in any large quantities. The dog probably will not have eaten enough to cause digestive tract impaction but if it did, make sure that plenty of water is available.

If the dog ate charcoal, that is a different story. Some charcoal i.e., Kingsford Matchlight(r) is saturated with waxes, paraffin and volatile organic compounds that make lighting it easier. Some will also have binders to make the briquette hold its shape. Read the warnings on the side of the bag and respond accordingly.

If you need to induce vomiting, get a turkey baster and squirt a quarter cup of hydrogen peroxide (3% solution available at the pharmacy) down the animal's throat. DO THIS OUTSIDE. The effect is nearly instantaneous and quite vigorous.
