Jamestown was the first major colonial settlement in what would become the United States of America. From 1607 to 1699, it served as the capital of Virginia colony.
1676 was the year of Bacon's Rebellion. It was an armed rebellion by the Virginia settlers led by Nathaniel Bacon against the rule of Governor William Berkeley, and was a result of the feeling that Berkeley had failed to address the demands of the colonists regarding their safety.
