What does blood moon mean in the Bible?

Blood moons is a pattern for Israel. For example, in 1949 a blood moon appeared right after Israel became a nation in 1948. It also happened again in 1967 when the Jews regained Jerusalem during the six-day war. The next time blood moons appear will be the year 2014 and 2015, on Jewish Holy Days such as Passover and Sukkot (or Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles for some).

My theory of the significance is that it is possible in 2014 we will witness a peace treaty and in 2015 the rebuilding of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. Others may have other theories of what they mean.

The "blood moons" have already become the next "Y2K" or "Mayan Calendar" fiascos on the Internet, as people begin their personal panic over the ever-pending "end of the world as we know it" [or TEOTWAWKI as the acronym goes].

Biblically speaking... nowhere does The Bible say "blood moons" as far as the foreseeable, next scheduled "tetrads" or series of blood moons are concerned. The Bible prophesys of a particular cosmic event that involves the appearance of the "moon turning blood red," that shall take place JUST PRIOR to the return of Jesus Christ, better known, prophetically, as "The Day of the LORD."

"...Let everyone tremble in fear because the Day of the LORD is upon us. It is a Day of darkness and gloom, a Day of thick clouds and deep blackness..." (Joel 2:1-2 NLT New Living Translation)

"The sun will be turned into darkness, and THE MOON WILL TURN BLOODRED BEFORE that Great and Terrible Day of the LORD arrives. And anyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved..." (verses 31-32).

The prophecies regarding this phenomenon are very specific, as to WHEN they will happen. First of all... what Jesus calls "Great Tribulation" [Matt.24:21 KJV]... and the [NLT] characterizes as: "a time of greater horror than anything the world has ever seen or will ever see again." - same verse; shall have been occurring in the world for the past 3 1/2 years, first [which is a different study]!

And the "Great Tribulation" hasn't even begun yet, to begin counting 3 1/2 years. Not that anyone will have that kind of time on his hands to casually count it off, once it starts.

It shall be the "Great Tribulation" that God Himself will have to "specially" CUT SHORT with these "heavenly signs"... because Jesus tells us that if He doesn't:

"In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE WILL BE DESTROYED. But it will be shortened FOR THE SAKE OF GOD'S CHOSEN ONES." (Matt.24:22 NLT) [Those who profess the "Rapture" theory should take note, here, that God's chosen ones haven't been wafted off to heaven before the Great Tribulation, but are deeply in it - see "Seal 5" of Rev.6 for specifics of the Great Tribulation... and Matt.24:9-28 for Jesus' detailed explanation]

Jesus, then tells us PRECISELY WHEN the sun and the moon phenomena will occur:

"IMMEDIATELY AFTER THOSE HORRIBLE DAYS END [the unprecedented days that have never before occurred throughout history, nor that shall ever occur again; horrifying days that threaten to eliminate all life on planet earth], the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of heaven will be shaken." (verse 29)

We're given the specifics of this prophetic "bloodred moon" and the other "heavenly signs" that follow on the heels of the Great Tribulation in Revelation 6's 'Seal 6'] the sign that SHORTENS IT!

"I watched as the Lamb [Christ] broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake. The sun became as dark as black cloth, and the moon became as red as blood. Then the stars of the sky fell to the earth like green figs falling from trees shaken by mighty winds. And the sky was rolled up like a scroll and taken away [how frightening a sight will that be to witness, standing on the earth?]. And all the mountains and all of the islands disappeared. Then the kings of the earth, the rulers, the generals, the wealthy people, the people with great power, and every slave and every free person - ALL HID THEMSELVES IN THE CAVES AND AMONG THE ROCKS OF THE MOUNTAINS." (Rev.6:12-15 NLT)

This is NOT a casual "observance of astrological events" in the heavens, that millions of people are waiting around, surfing the Internet, to "see what happens." This will be a matter of utter global horror and survival. Even the "kings" of the world and "MILITARY GENERALS" will curtail whatever evil and mayhem they had been doing that brought the world to this pending perilous end. They, too, will be, as they say: "heading for the hills!" And, why?

"And they cried to the mountains and the rocks, 'Fall on us and hide us FROM THE FACE OF THE ONE WHO SITS ON THE THRONE [God the Father in heaven] AND FROM THE WRATH OF THE LAMB [the returning, Living, Jesus Christ]. For THE GREAT DAY OF THEIR WRATH [the Day of the LORD - 'Seal 7' - see the remaining 16 chapters of Revelation for details] HAS COME, and who will be able to survive?'" (verses 16-17)

THAT'S what the "bloodred moon" means in the Bible. It will be an UNMISTAKABLE GLOBAL SIGN in the heavens by God, as all life on planet earth is on the brink of ending, in which every man, woman and child on the face of the earth, beneath the earth, or in outer space [if there are any by then]... will SEE JESUS CHRIST coming with the dark, gloomy clouds blocking the sun and the moon from giving their normal light.

"And then AT LAST, the sign of the coming of the Son of Man will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among ALL THE NATIONS OF THE EARTH. And THEY WILL SEE the Son of Man arrive on the clouds of heaven with Power and Great Glory." (Matt.24:30-31 NLT)

So, if it's the "blood moons" that people are now looking for, regarding Bible prophecy, in order to "know and understand" WHEN to expect Jesus' return to the earth [or to just have the next 'religious sensation' to blog about]... then, people are looking for the wrong thing. It's not SEAL 6; the darkening of the sun and moon, etc., God's servants should watch for; but SEAL 5! The GREAT TRIBULATION! A time of unprecedented global horror that the darkening of the earth by God [Seal 6] will cut short.

And they'd better begin studying the Bible with a humble heart, and in the Spirit of God who reveals it to His servants... so that they can:

"...share the revelation with God's other servants... God blesses the one who reads this prophecy to the church, and He blesses all who listen to it and obey what it says. For the time is near when these things will happen." (Rev.1:1-3 NLT)

By the time 'Seal 6' occurs over the earth [the 'heavenly signs,' including the bloodred moon in question]... the remnant of the earth's population will be dying or running for their lives, and hiding from the approaching 'Lamb of God'... the returning King with His angelic armies, His saints, and His world-ruling Kingdom!

"...We give thanks to you, LORD God Almighty, the One who IS and who ALWAYS WAS, for now you have assumed your Great Power and have begun to reign. The nations were angry with you, but now the time of your wrath has come. It is time to Judge the dead and reward your servants. You will reward your prophets and your holy people, all who fear your Name, from the least to the greatest. And you will destroy all who have caused destruction on the earth." (Rev.11:18 NLT)

The bloodred moon in question won't be a "natural cosmic occurence"... but a "special sign, specially performed by God at the very last moment," that will literally stop man's sinning, death-dealing, and evil works, to prevent him from killing off every last living thing on earth.

eclipse, it is a bad omen for the Israelites, since the Israelites reckon by lunar

months (...) If its face is red as blood, [it is a sign that] the sword is coming to

the world (...) If the eclipse is at sunset, calamity will tarry in its coming; if at

dawn, it hastens on its way; but some say the order is to be reversed. But when

the Israelites fulfill the will of God, they need have no fear of all these [omens].
