We are told in Luke's account that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, in an outhouse of an inn that used for cattle, as he was 'laid in a manger' after he was born. Some time later (possibly two years later) visitors from the east - 'wise men', came to visit him in the house where he was now staying in Bethlehem. We are told in Matthew's Gospel account that, after the wise men came to look for him, he was in danger because Herod the king of that area wanted to put him to death as he thought he may well be a pretender to the throne. So the family escaped from Bethlehem to Egypt where they stayed until they heard that Herod had died and the danger had passed. They then returned to the area, but not to Bethlehem but to the north in the town of Nazareth in Galilee, where Joseph came from, where they settled.
In Luke's Gospel, Mary and Joseph took the baby Jesus from Bethlehem to Jerusalem when the days of Mary's purification had passed, and presented him at the Temple. They then peacefully travelled to their home in Nazareth.
Luke's infancy narrative is not only massively different from Matthew's, but also in details is virtually irreconcilable with it. Neither story is likely to be historical accurate, so we do not really know about Jesus birth or where he went afterwards.
Luke's Gospel says that Mary and Joseph took Jesus from Bethlehem to Jerusalem a few days after he was born, to be presented at the Temple, then returned peacefully to their home in Nazareth.
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem Mary his mother raped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger.
Many people in our culture today do not know the difference between a stable and a manger, and that is understandable as most people live in cities. A stable would be considered a barn like structure. A manger would be a feeding trough, a place to put the hay or oats or whatever else you would feed your animals. Jesus slept in the manger or feeding trough which was inside the stable.
Initially in a manger which is a trough to feed animals from:
Luke 2:7New King James Version (NKJV)7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
At the time of flight to Egypt, the young CHILD, Jesus, was at toddler age and could have been as old as 2yrs. Herod, after discerning the Magi's first spotting the star, determined all male children up to 2 yrs were to be murdered.
Matthew 2:13New King James Version (NKJV)The Flight into Egypt
13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him."
Jesus is the Son and also the father John 10:30 "My father and I are one" Jesus was God who came down to allow himself to die on the cross for their sins. Jesus was god who was born by Mary. Jesus was god able to die, sleep, hunger, tired and wept. Jesus is fully man and fully god.
