There is a margarita pizza that was named after an Italian queen. She enjoyed the pizza that happened to have the colors of red, white and green.
The colors of the flag are the same as the colors of the toppings: white mozzarella cheese, red tomatoes and green basil leaves
It is Pizza Margherita. It was made in honor of the Queen consort of Italy, Margherita of Savoy. It's toppings are fresh sliced tomatoes, fresh sliced Mozzarella, and fresh basil leaves. It represents the colors of the Italian flag. I believe it was the first pizza to use cheese, the pizza's we all know and love today.
The original pizza (so the story goes) was the Pizza Margherita (named for, and supposedly created for, Margherita Maria Teresa Giovanna of Savoy--check Wikipedia if you want more info). It is red (tomato), white (real mozzarella cheese), and green (basil)--the colors of the Italian flag (aka il tricolore). Basically a caprese salad baked on top of a focaccia loaf, it became an instant classic and inspired a whole genre of global fast food. Amongst other things. Viva Napoli.
There are four main countries which claim to have invented pizza: Italy, Greece, Israel and the United States.
