I wouldn't have believed it possible myself, but I witnessed this very thing happening on holiday in Holland a number of years back. The ducklings weren't even lost - they would swim behind their mother in a line and seagulls were swooped down and just picking them up. They'd then land and swallow the ducklings whole - not pleasant to watch.

When we arrived there were at least nine ducklings present... a week later as we left, there were only two. Not a great fan of seagulls anymore...

The Best thing to feed baby seagulls for a short amount of time before you have the chance to get real food is wet bread. they get their water from the bread and their food. Once you have the time get either some wet canned cat food or some sardines.

if the seagull is old enough to ingest live food, rather than regurgitated from the mother you should find fresh live minnows.

I splinted the leg and through mentoring by a licensed bird care giver I was able to obtain Baytril an antibiotic, and was instructed to feed the little guy minnows and eggs.. if the minnows are dead (and that's all you can get) then just put them in a dish with b12 enriched water.. one 500 mg tablet disolved in a pint of water will do.. as the minnows lose their vitamin content after a few hours of dying.. and the bread soaked in water is good if he won't drink otherwise too mush bread will actually dehydrate him..
