Mormons believe that Jesus Christ was born in a stable in Bethlehem to the virgin Mary, just as most other Christians do. We believe in the King James version of The Bible and the account that is found in Luke 24.

Answer
In Gospel Lessons for the Lamanite People, an LDS missionary manual, it says " "Nephi lived in America at the time Jesus was born across the ocean in Jerusalem."
Alma 7:10, a verse from the Book of Mormon itself, says "10 And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God."
Jerusalem is not a "province" or larger section in which Bethlehem is a "suburb" or anything of the like. The Book of Mormon plainly states that Jesus Christ was born in Jerusalem, not in Bethlehem. ANSWERWhere is Jerusalem ever described as a "land" in the Scriptures? The expression "land of Jerusalem" never occurs in the sixty-six books of the Bible. The fact is, Matthew, an inspired apostle, explicitly states that Bethlehem is in "the land of Judah" (Matthew 2:6; cf. Luke 2:4). Judah is the "land"; Jerusalem is a "city" (cf. Zechariah 8:3; Matthew 5:35); and so is Bethlehem (Luke 2:4). Note the precision of Matthew's descriptions elsewhere in the same chapter. Twice he refers to the "land of Israel" (2:20-21), and then to the "city of Nazareth" (v. 23). Unlike Joseph Smith, the biblical writers did not confuse "land" and "city."

Bethlehem and Jerusalem are never confused in the Bible, as if the former were a mere "suburb" of the latter. The fact is, both "Bethlehem" and "Jerusalem" are mentioned in the same text (Matthew 2:1),

Do the mormons believe that jesus died on a pole instead of a cross?

No, Mormons believe that Jesus was crucified on a cross, just like most other Christians. Mormons believe and study the Bible throughly, so the accounts there are what we believe. Mormons dont however use the cross as a religious symbol like many other religions... Perhaps you are thinking of the Jehovah's Witnesses? They do not believe that Jesus died on a cross.

What did Mormons believe Jesus was going to do?

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior and Redeemer of mankind. They believe in the Old Testament prophesies about him and the New Testament account of his earthly ministry. They believe that he suffered and died on the cross to atone for our sins. Mormons believe that salvation comes only through Jesus Christ to all those who have faith in him. They, like all Christians, look forward to the time when Jesus Christ will return to the earth, as promised in the Bible. Unlike other Christians, Mormons also believe that Jesus Christ visited the people of the Americas following his crucifixion and resurrection. The account of this visit is found in the Book of Mormon. You can learn more about what Mormons believe about Jesus Christ at the "Related Links" below.
