Well, that depends on the pet. But make sure it has food an water. If it's a dog, play with it. Any sort of pet that you can play with will probably appreciate the attention. (If it growls, snarls, or hisses, stop.) If it's a hamster, put it in a ball and it'll have fun by itself. Hermit crabs would like to just be set on the floor in a caged area. Fish are easy. Turtles are easy. Cats usually run away, but if they aren't shy, then pet them (but watch out because some play rough). Birds are annoying, but if their wings are clipped maybe take them outside. But don't let them slip away.

I need to find a GOOD pet sitter. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats. I never leave them more than a day, but I find myself having to leave town for a funeral, and I do not have any choice in the matter. This sitter must be very kind! I live in New Jersey.
yeah go get a fish Edit: I Suggest getting Goldfish. They are easy to take care of and are a great first pet since you don't need to take out to the bathroom, and they don't need a pet sitter.

As this question is in "jobs for pre-teens" I would highly recommend that any pre-teen or anyone who is a minor to stay away from pet sitting. For more information on what it takes to be a professional pet sitter (thus the reason why pre-teens or anyone who is a minor should NOT do pet sitting) or to find a quality pet sitter please visit the (international) Pet Sitter Locator
