Luke 2:9-12 (NIV)
9: An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10: But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
11: Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
12: This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
An Angel of the Lord appeared to Mary and Joseph both, speaking of the coming birth, but not of the actual birth.
Simply by his proclamation from our Father in heaven, written for us in Luke 2, which said -10. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12. And this [shall be] a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in
swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
