She marries United States Senator John Fitzgerald Kennedy (D-Mass.) on September 12th, 1953 in Newport, Rhode Island. They would have five children, but only two survive past infancy. He became the 35th President of the United States on January 20th, 1961, and she became First Lady. She was known for her fashion trends, efforts to restore the White House with historical and American furnishings, her patronage of the Arts, and efforts to protect her privacy and that of her children's despite her public presence as First Lady. President Kennedy was assassinated on November 22nd, 1963. Jackie mourned the death more than anyone, and led the nation in mourning and burying the slain leader. She raised the sole surviving heirs of JFK, and helped create the Camelot image of the Kennedy administration. She remarries in 1968 to the Greek billionaire Aristotle Onassis, as if to break away from her loneliness and image as an American widow. After Onassis' death in 1975, she becomes a book editor, editing over 100 books for two book publishers for twenty years. She dies of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at the age of 64 on May 19th, 1994.

Her father was John Vernou Bouvier III, a handsome stockbroker, her mother was Janet Norton Lee Bouvier, a petite socialite and equestrian. She scored in the 90% range in the College Board exams, which propelled her to Vassar College, where she spent her first two years studying. She was described as a brilliant student, who was prone to grow bored since she finished her work so quickly, and resorted to pranks and bad behavior to keep up her time and attention. She went to France for a year, then finished her college career with a Major in French Literature from George Washington University in 1951. She turned down a job from Vogue Magazine that year, after winning the Prix de Paris competition held by the magazine to work for the Washington Times-Herald as the 'Inquiring Camera Girl.' This was where she worked at the time she met her future husband, then Massachusetts Congressman Jack Kennedy. After breaking off a previous engagement, she marries JFK on September 12th, 1953 in Newport, Rhode Island. She would have two children with him and followed his rising political star from the U.S. Senate in 1953 to the White House in 1961.

Her importance as First Lady was augmented by the fact that she was the third youngest one in the history of the United States. She was the first to have young children in the White House since Theodore Roosevelt's time, and sought to raise her's despite the craving for photographers to record their development. She also sought to help her husband in every way she could. She formed a kindergarten for the White House children and a library for them to read in. She led the effort to turn the White House into the cultural and historical center of the United States. She set fashion trends in hair and clothing that were closely followed by the world-wide press and millions of women. She could speak in four languages, which helped her husband reach out to the Spanish, French and Italian communities in ways other politicians could not.
