George Eastman (1854-1932) invented a practical roll form of photographic film in 1884 , and founded the Eastman Kodak company. He popularized Photography with early hand-held box cameras.
His company would create a transparent motion picture film suitable for projection (most roll films were paper backed at that time) in 1889. He also introduced the motion picture standard still in use today... 35mm film with 4 perforations on each side and a 1.33 aspect ratio image area, introduced in 1892.
George Eastman didn't invent the hand-held camera. Such small cameras date back to the late 1850's (try Thomas Skaife's Pistolgraph of 1859, for example). Eastman's single most important contribution to photography is often overlooked by historians. It's true that he produced the first commercially successful rollfilms (though not the first), but he was the first to establish a system of commercial processing that permitted virtually anyone to make a photograph without having to be concerned about having developing and printing equipment of his own. Eastman's equipment was simple to use and it was backed up by Eastman's own concern for quality. "You push the button; we do the rest" was used again and again in the early years, and was resurrected with Eastman's introduction of 16mm cine film in 1923, first as "You turn the crank...," then literally in its original form in early 1924 when an electric motor was added to the camera. Eastman did invent one of the first emulsion coating machines, first for plates, then for rollfilm, but while Eastman Kodak Company produced an amazing number of innovations over the years, most were the work of company employees. Eastman was one of the first manfacturers to recognize the value of an independent research and development function, and he established such an operation with the hiring of Kenneth Mees in 1912. He continued to be closely associated with the planning and design of Kodak products, and if the few available records are any indication, left his personal stamp on the final design of those products.
He invented the blender, or food processor.
