Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, most of Switzerland and Luxembourg. In addition, many other countries bordering on Germany have small German-speaking communities. As a second language German is quite widely spoken in Eastern Central Europe. It is also taught in a lot of schools out side Germany as a second language. Although the written German language is pretty much the same throughout German-speaking countries there are several large differences in the spoken language.
Germany, Austria, Switzerland (Partly), Belgium (minority), Denmark (minority), France (minority in Alsace), Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Poland (minority)
Germany is probability the only country that speaks German

German is one of the top spoken languages in the world, the 11th to be exact. And there are large German speaking communities in many countries regardless of the official language, if any. The US does not have German as an official language but has a population of German speakers around 3-5 million, one of the highest in the world. Here are a list of countries with German as an official language:

Germany

Belgium

Luxembourg

Switzerland

Liechtenstein

Austria

Italy, not national but territorial (via South Tyrol)

List of countries with most German speakers(not on list above):

USA

Brazil

Russia

Kazakhstan

Italy (national)

Poland

Canada
Northern Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, United States, Liechtenstein and Belgium.

There are some spots also in southern Africa. ___ German-speaking countries: * Germany * Austria * Switzerland (about two-thirds) * Liechtenstein * Luxembourg There are small German-speaking communities in many other countries, but to list Northern Italy and the United States as German-speaking is misleading. Just try getting around in the U.S. on German!
