most faults in windstars are the torque converter and driveshaft spindle teeth wearing out.
Either the transmission needs an oil and filter change/ additive to it(some mixture they sell at walmart to prevent sticking gears). Or the transmission is going bad. might need a new one
The most common cause for a transmission not to change gears, is low transmission fluid. Check the transmission fluid and fill to the full line.
A worn transmission gear can cause a Chevy Impala to whine when the gears change. A bad fan belt can also cause this.
A transmission that causes the RPMs to increase without changing gears could be in need of fluid. If that does not fix the problem, it may be the car needs a new transmission. For safety reasons, it is imperative the car is taken to a trained mechanic to be diagnosed properly.
Did you use the right transmission fluid or did you forget to maintain your transmission otherwise, your gears are broken and needed to be replaced.. chances are you need a new transmission.
On a 1998 Ford Windstar ( 3.0 and 3.8 liter V6 engines ) It uses a 4 speed automatic / overdrive transaxle ( transmission )
One of the most common causes of gears in a Mercedes Benz A class 160 automatic gearbox to slip and not shift up to higher gears is a bad transmission. If the transmission is failing, or not working properly, you won't get the gears to shift up.
You have not pressed the Clutch peddle to change the gears!!
There are a few reasons for a transmission to growl. It could be that the vehicle is low on fluid, and the gears are starting to grind, it could be that there is dirt within the system causing it to grind as well.
It's a transmission where the gears do not change themselves, but have to be changed with a gear shift and a clutch.
Your Transmission Fluid is very dirty. Change it and flush it first.
