The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a small to medium sized breed of Dog that was first bred by crossing Bulldogs (old fashioned ones) with Terriers. They come in almost any colour, including: Blue, Red, Brown, Fawn, Brindle, Black, White or any of these colours with white. They are a muscular breed with great strength for their size. Their hard exterior has unfortunately led to a trend in them being used as 'status symbols' by young lads and gangs. This has led to the stereotype that this breed is aggressive, when in actual fact it could not be further from the truth. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is one of only two breeds (out of 190 recognised by the Kennel Club) to have a mention of the breed's suitability with children - it has also often been called 'The Nanny Dog'. It is also the ONLY breed to have been described as 'Totally Reliable' in it's breed standard. It is widely agreed amoung dog owners and trainers that "No Breed Is More Loving With Its Family". Because of their fondness for people, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is temperamentally ill-suited for guard or attack-Dog Training. Therefore, although on the outside they may seem tough and intimidating, on the inside this breed is a trustworthy, loyal, loving and affectionate addition to any family.
yes staffs are cute but some can be ugly and vicious
Staffordshire Bull Terriers are NOT vicious if they are socialized and raised by responsible owners. There is no scientific evidence to suggest that the Staffy is in any way more aggressive than any other breed - in fact, there is actually evidence to suggest that you are less likely to be bitten by a Staffy than a Golden Retriever. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was the highest scoring of ALL breeds of Dog in temperament tests performed by the American Temperament Society - meaning that statistically they have the best temperament of any existing breed of Dog. There is no such thing as a bad breed, there are only bad owners.
stafforshire bull terriers (staffys) are extremely friendly...... to people. But they always try to make a blue with other dogs, so be careful on walks. My little malchi was attacked by 2 staffies once..........
Staffies can be aggressive towards other dogs since they were bred for dog-fighting, but that does not mean that breed has to be destiny. If Staffies are properly socialised from puppyhood they can get along with other dogs just fine.
i have a staffordshire bull terrier and mine is soo friendly, she never attacks other dogs when on walks, the only reason a staffy would attack another dog would be because of the way the dog is 'brought up' my staffy is a lovely white one and would never hurt anyone or anything! :)
The Pit Bull itself is only one breed, but there are two other breeds that are very similar. These are the American Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The Pit Bull is not an officially recognised breed and so is not bred to a standard. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a smaller recognised version of the Pit Bull, and the American Staffordshire Terrier is a recognised version of the Pit Bull.
A Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a small to medium sized breed of dog in the Terrier Breed Group. It is an athletic, intelligent and very strong breed that is rated as one of the top 5 Best Family Dogs.
There are a few dog breeds that can be put under the term 'pit bull': American pit bull terrier American staffordshire terrier Staffordshire bull terrier and there is a breed called Irish staffordshire bull terrier People argue that the APBT and the Amstaff are one and the same breed, but others argue that the bloodlines have been apart too long for them to be considered the same breed.
The staffordshire bull terrier American staffordshire terrier and the Argentinean Dogo all resemble the pitbull
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was first bred in Staffordshire, England, using Bulldog's (not today's ones) and local Terrier's. The American Pit Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier were bred using English Staffordshire's by increasing their size and weight. Therefore, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was the main breed used in the development of the Pit Bull - not the other way around.
