Feral cats are a serious threat to small Australian wild life. As a matter of fact they have depleted stock of wildlife in some coastal areas of Western Australia so much that they are now seen swimming out at sea hunting fish.

Predators of feral cats can include larger carnivores such as coyotes, foxes, and Birds of Prey like owls and eagles. In some areas, other feral animals or domesticated dogs may also pose a threat to feral cats.

Feral cats pose a very real danger to Australian native wildlife. Australia has one of the worst records of native species extinction since European settlement 200 years ago, and part of that is due to the native cats. It is believed that cats arrived in Australia about 450 years ago (from the ships of the Macassans and Asian traders who collected trepang - sea slugs - off the northern coast), and it is not known how many species were decimated even before the Europeans arrived.

There were no natural known predators on the Australian continent, apart from the Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) and the Tasmanian Wolf. Even now, only the Tasmanian Wolf remains, and in its native habitat, only in Tasmania, the island state. Because so many Australian species are essentially helpless and unprepared with defenses against creatures such as cats, the effect on the wildlife has been devastating.

There are many predators that would hunt feral cats in Australia. Here is a list of likely candidates. 1. The salt water crocodile. 2.dingos. 3. Any of the big snakes for example the red belly black snake could kill a cat and swallow it whole. Monitor lizards in which can reach 6-8 feet and have toxic saliva that kills. He can then track the fast cat as it weakens and dies so it becomes an easy meal. Hawks that evan take small dogs where I live and Australia can take a feral cat for a meal. An unlikely predator but has been known to kill evan human is the Sydney Funnel-Web spider that could kill and eat a cat.
