Shakespeare did not write very many stories. Most of the plays and poems were adapted from stories other people wrote. For example, although Shakespeare wrote the play Romeo and Juliet, he did not write the story. He used a story that had been used many times before, and particularly in the form of a poem by Arthur Brooke called Romeus and Juliet.

The plays which do have plots or stories which Shakespeare wrote are Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest and The Merry Wives of Windsor.
