Definition:

Monocotyledonous flowering plants can quickly be identified in that the floral parts of these plants are always in multiples of 3. That is to say petals, sepals, stamens or locules. Sometimes these parts may be fused so that it is not easy to identify the number (eg. Orchids). Monocots also normally have parallel leaf veination.

Dicotyledonous floral parts are always in multiples of 4 and 5!
