Hair cells in the inner ear are specialized sensory cells that detect sound waves. They are made up of stereocilia, which are tiny hair-like projections that are critical for detecting and transmitting sound signals to the brain. Hair cells translate mechanical vibrations into electrical signals that the brain can interpret as sound.
