I live in Sonoma County, California. I have found numerous whole peeled lemons, some laying on the ground and some still hanging high up on the lemon bush- but with no peel!! The peel is almost completely off while the fruit is still whole and intact. I believe the culprit to be rats as they are the only critters who would chew off the lemon peels on the ground and also then climb up to get them as well. Plus we are out in the country on acreage and there are rats around but they are very shy and seldom seen.
