I am current senior at Cornell University. From what I have heard from the Cornell Career Center is that the average GPA is around 3.2 while the average GPA for students going on to pursue professional degrees (law or medicine) is nearly a 3.6. Also relevant, roughly 6% of students have above a 3.7 and less than one percent make it out with a 4.0 or above (A+ = 4.3) This second bit of information is based on the number of students who graduated magna or summa cum laude last year. Starting with the Fall 2008 incoming freshman class, Cornell will post median grades on transcript. The median grade for each class/course is available, along with number of students in each section, but can't find school GPA's anywhere. Based on the information from webpages below, the average GPA has got to be well into the 3's http://registrar.sas.cornell.edu/Grades/MedianGradeSP07.pdf http://registrar.sas.cornell.edu/Grades/MedianGradeFA07.pdf
most classes in cornell engineering are curved around a B, so I would guess around 3.0
