There were actually seven attempts on Queen Victoria's life. The first was in June 1840, a few months after she married Prince Albert, when a mentally ill man fired two pistol shots at their carriage. Further attempts came in 1842 (when she was shot at twice), 1849 (shot at with an unloaded pistol), 1850 (whacked over the head with a walking stick), 1872 (shot at again; her Highland servant John Brown wrestled the attacker to the ground), and 1882 (two schoolboys beat up the would-be assassin with their umbrellas). The first was the 1840 attempt by Edward Oxford who fired twice but missed. Oxford was acquitted on the grounds of insanity.
On 29 May 1842 John Francis aimed a pistol at her but did not fire.
On 30 May 1842 he made a second effort and fired but missed and was arrested and convicted. He was transported for life.
John William Bean got 18 months in jail for firing at her with a pistol that contained no bullet and William Hamilton fired at her a second tiime with no bullet. An ex Army Officer named Pate struck her in the face with his cane and Hamilton and Pate each got seven years transportation.
An assassination attempt with a bomb intended for Napoleon III placed her at risk once again.
On 28 February 1872 Arthur O'Conner, age 17 waved an empty pistol at the Queen at the gates of Buckingham Palace and got 12 months in prison for his effort.
On 2 March 1882 she was shot at by a poet Roderick Maclean who was also found not guilty by reason of insanity.
On 23 September 1896 she became the longest serving British Monarch and she died at the age of 81 on 22 January 1901.
The queen was shot at three times (perhaps more) between 1840 and 1842, but was not injured in any of the assassination attempts.
