Carrie Underwood has a soprano voice, though she chooses to sing Country Music in a lower register. If anyone doesn't believe this... then watch her in the upcoming NBC holiday special this December where she will play the (Julie Andrews) role of Maria von Trapp in a live new production of "The Sound of Music."

The only songs I know of that had voice overs were Climb Every Mountain and some of the songs the children sang...though it wasn't a total voice over with the children's songs...they just had additional singers add voice to the songs.
Julie Andrews was 30 at the time. Other sites are reporting she was 20 but she was born in 1935 and The Sound of Music came out in 1965. She would have been 30 at the time. Julie Andrews made an her film debut in Walt Disney's Mary Poppins (1964), which earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress.
There were two different casts- the play - with Mary Martin in the lead ( it is hard to believe she is better known for the role- totally different of Peter pan) and the movie starring Julie Andrews as Maria, lead female character- then there were Road Company productions ( which I saw one)- that were the same play but had the alternate title- One Family Sings. I have already mentioned the original play and the movie- a more modern revival has a different cast.
The original cast included Mary Martin (at age 46) as Maria,
