Ladd's career faded before he could have gotten booked on an Aaron Spelling television show such as "Burke's Law." In fact, he never had a television career. Like Laurence Harvey, Ladd had a dour, somber quality (on the screen at least) that didn't work with comedy, and 1960s American television had a lot of funny variety shows and sitcoms. Television westerns didn't need either of them. Even "Burke's Law," which was a crime drama, included dark humor.

Ladd died in 1964 during an era when newspaper columnists Louella Parsons and Hedda Hopper covered up a lot of stuff about Hollywood sex and death. Nobody investigated Ladd's life or death while the information was fresh. So the simple answer to the question that started this "Answers" article is, "It's possible, but we'll never know. Too many people who knew the correct answer died without revealing it to a journalist."

It's creepy to imagine how Alan Ladd would react to his Wikipedia article. You can see the way his characters behaved in movies when others crossed them, but those were fictional characters.
