This main role is pretty much split between Aurora (Sleeping beauty) and Maleificent (the main evil fairy/devil figure in this story). The reason behind this is because normally it would be just sleeping beauty herself but taken that Maleificent has more solos and is the main evil person they both share the title of the main role, (though Sleeping beauty herself gets more credit!). The princess (Beauty) was the main character. She was cursed to die by the Evil Fairy out of spite for not having been invited to Beauty's christening. The good fairies were invited to the christening and gave Beauty gifts. One of the good fairies learned of the curse and was able to soften the death spell to a hundred-year's sleep. Beauty triggered the spell by pricking her finger on a spindle that an old lady in the castle was using even though the King had ordered all spinning wheels destroyed to protect her from the spell. Prince John fought his way to the castle and kissed Beauty to awaken her and they all lived happily ever after. There are several versions of this fairy tale...the version above is the Brothers Grimm version.
