Leonard Whiting plays Romeo in Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 movie of Romeo and Juliet. Leonardo DiCaprio played him in the 1996 Baz Luhrman movie. He has also been played on film by Leslie Howard, Lawrence Harvey, Christopher Neame, Patrick Ryecart, Antoni Cimolino, Jonathan Firth and about 50 more actors and Ballet dancers according to the IMdb.

Plus he has been played on stage innumerable times in the 415 years or so since the play premiered. Some famous Romeos on stage have been Henry Irving (1882) and Laurence Olivier and John Gielgud (who played opposite Peggy Ashcroft on alternating nights) in 1935.

Unfortunately cast lists for Elizabethan productions are very rare, but we know that members of The Lord Chamberlain's men played the parts. In the Second Quarto of 1599 a stage direction says "Enter Will Kempe" in Act IV Scene V, when the character's name is Peter. We thus know that Kempe played Peter. Richard Burbage, the leading man, was almost certainly Romeo.

Other members of the cast would have been John Heminges, Henry Condell, Augustine Phillips, Thomas Pope, George Bryan, and of course William Shakespeare. The part of Juliet might have been played by Christopher Beeston or Alexander Cooke, both believed to have been boy players in the company.
