But even with it revealed it is still a mystery and beyond our understanding, so it must be accepted on faith. St. Augustine was once walking along the beach trying to understand the Trinity when he chanced upon a child who was shoveling water from the ocean into a hole in the sand. St. Augustine asked the child what he was doing, and he replied that he was putting the ocean into his hole. St. Augustine told him that he could never accomplish that, and the child replied that he could accomplish putting the whole ocean in the hole before Augustine would understand the Trinity.

So, although we believe that God is a Trinity of persons, nevertheless, they are only one God. Look at it this way, you are only one person but you have a spirit and a body. Even though you have both, you are only one person. God is the other way around, He is Three Persons, but they only have One Spirit, that Spirit is what we call God while each person remains distinct they are co-equal, co-eternal, and consubstantial and deserve co-equal glory and adoration because they are One God.

It is Christianity proper, the original monotheistic religion was Judaism, Catholicism is Christianity - Judaism fulfilled, because we believe that the Savior came, in the person of Our Blessed Lord. It is not a "branch", according to Our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ, there can only be one Church, which He called, MY Church, He set St. Peter and his successors over it to rule it as His Vicars (see St. Matthew 16:17-19) and send the Holy Spirit to guide it until the end of the world. The Church is His Mystical Body (see St. Paul) and His Bride. Our Blessed Lord only has one Body and one Bride.
