There can be many factors including genetics, overall diet and exercise.

However, potatoes do contain a lot of carbohydrates which means that people who eat a lot of mashed potatoes can have excess carbohydrates causing them to store the energy which they do not use throughout the day into fat.

Of course you can! However I don't know your circumstances. For example, do you mean you're wondering whether to substitute all your meals for mashed potato?

If you are talking in general dietry restrictions, eating mashed potatoes shouldn't be an obstacle in your goals to lose weight etc. Potatoes are naturally healthy - They're like vegatables (or classed as vegatables, even) and I've never heard that they're significantly less healthy in the form of being 'mashed'.

Also, they are hearty and carby, meaning your appitite will be sustained for longer, curbing potential snacking habits/ large portion intakes. I believe they'll release energy gradually, preventing sugar crashes and consequential sugar cravings etc.

no they contain milk and salt and butter. the packet potatoes are even worse! they contain preservatives and artificial bleaches and flavors
