Is visa required for entry into the Maldives?
Visitors (either for tourist or business purposes) to the Maldives do not require a prior visa.
A tourist visa for 30-days, which is free-of-charge, will be issued to all bona-fide travellers/visitors upon arrival in the Maldives provided that they are:
In possession of a valid international travel document/passport
In possession of a valid return ticket from the destination of travel
Sufficient funds to stay in the Maldives.
How long should my passport be valid for?
According to the Department of the Immigration & Emigration of the Maldives, passports or travel documents of visitors should be valid for the duration that you are staying in the Maldives.
Can I apply for extension of my visa during my stay in the Maldives?
Yes you can. For extension of your visa you need to follow the procedures listed below:
Complete and submit the鈥淎pplication for Permit to Stay鈥?application available at the Department of Immigration & Emigration, Maldives for purchase of Maldivian Rufiyaa 10.00 (1 US Dollar is equivalent to 12.85 Maldivian Rufiyaa) with the passport and payment. No payment is required if the period of stay does not exceed 30 days.
Evidence of the place of stay/resort/hotel in which the applicant is staying should be submitted with the application.
Foreigners who enter on tourist permit can stay in the Maldives for 90 days, including the initial period granted on arrival. However, the last 60 days will be referred.
Can I apply for a student visa?
Foreign students can apply for a student visa in the Maldives provided the student has a dependant or guardian in the Maldives.
Information on the student, arrival details and admission notice of a school should be submitted to the Department of Immigration and Emigration of the Maldives before the arrival of the student.
How do I apply for extension of a diplomatic permit?
Complete and submit the 鈥淎pplication for Permit to Stay鈥?application with the passport.
Diplomatic permit is granted to diplomatic passport holders and their families when approved by the Ministry of Foreign affairs, Maldives.
Can I apply for a working visa?
Foreign nationals seeing a working visa, who wish to engage in employment in the Maldives, should obtain a permit to work in the Maldives from the Ministry of Humans Resources & Employment, Maldives, prior to their arrival in the Maldives.
