It depends on what you need the surgery for.
There is such a thing as keyhole surgery. This is where surgeons make an incision small enough for a tiny camera and relevant operating instruments to enter the body. The scar is normally too small to notice. However some types of surgery will require a larger incision. Have a talk with your doctor about the options.
