Eating spicy food while pregnant is fine for mother and baby (who only gets a very small fraction of what mother consumes). If a food won't agree with you such as peppers (hot or sweet), spices, etc., then your stomach will let you know ... you'll get heartburn or bad gas and all you have to do is stop eating it. Women who are pregnant can have some very weird cravings (caused hormone changes) so eat what you feel like, but watch that weight gain. DON'T GO ON A DIET, but eat healthy because you are also feeding your baby.

One WikiAnswerer heard that if you crave lots of spicy food while pregnant, your baby is most likely a boy. Another argues that it's a bit of delightful nonsense, but if you want spicy food, eat away.

According to the book "What to Expect When Your Expecting" it is safe to eat all the hot foods you like as long as you can tolerate the heartburn and indigestion that follow. In fact the book says that since peppers of all kind, including hot ones, are packed with vitamin C, many of these foods are extra nutritious and just to save room for tums. Melissa a note though spicy food is thought to be able to induce labour so seeking advice from a medical professional is best and avoid vindaloo's :)

You can but you might regret it! The spicy food will influence the flavor of the milk and can upset your baby's stomach, and the hours of screaming may not be worth a spicy meal. Sometimes the baby won't even drink the milk if it is too strong. My daughter refused to eat after I had eaten something that was loaded with garlic. I expressed milk for a couple of hours and then I guess it was out of my system so she began to nurse again. An exception would be if you ate spicy food during your pregnancy. Amazingly the amniotic fluid is also influenced by what we eat, so if you ate spicy foods during pregnancy then the baby will be used to it. I believe there have been studies based on Latin American cultures where the food tends to be spicier; they've found that babies and children have higher tolerances than children from cultures with blander cuisine

The only reason to avoid eating chili while pregnant is to avoid the heartburn that follows. So if you're not getting heartburn, or if it's really mild, there's no reason not to eat it (especially if you're craving it).

The important thing to remember. Is that everything you eat and or drink when you are breastfeeding is passed onto your baby via your breastmilk.

You don't need to avoid spice completely. It is my recommendation to experiment and add a little spice to your meals to start. Access where your babies tolerance lies and avoid going beyond it.

Adding spices to your food creates variations in the taste of your breast milk which is good for your baby. The more variations of taste he or she experiences helps to develop a healthy taste for food, making the transition to solid foods much easier.

Yes of course it is. Ask your doctor to give you a list of the food you are not allowed to eat, but apart form that you can eat as normal.

I don't know if it's safe, but I sure feel a very strong sense of guilt everytime I have too much spicy like I did just now. But I cannot stop.

You can but most women have heartburn and that would make it 10 times worse. If you are close to labor it has also been known to help to get it started.
