Applying ice is generally better for reducing inflammation and pain in a sore heel. Heat may feel good temporarily, but it can potentially worsen the inflammation. It's recommended to ice the heel for about 15-20 minutes at a time, several times a day.
Ice melts faster on metal because metal is a good conductor of heat, allowing heat energy to transfer quickly to the ice. Plastic is a poor conductor of heat, so it retains heat better and slows down the melting process of ice.
I think you will be better off using a cream and ice! ( that's my opinion )
Calcium chloride is better (the solubility heat is greater) but is more expensive.
Plastic and glass are better conductors of heat compared to ice, so when ice cubes are placed on them, heat from the surroundings is transferred to the ice, causing it to melt. The higher rate of heat transfer in plastic and glass materials speeds up the melting process of the ice cubes.
For acute sciatica pain, it's recommended to use ice to help reduce inflammation and numb the area. If the pain persists or becomes chronic, alternating between ice and heat therapy can help to alleviate pain and promote healing.
If the swelling is due to trauma such as a punch to the jaw, ice is best. If swelling is inside the mouth, an abscess is the most likely cause and heat is best as it draws the pus to the surface where it will burst and the relief will be instant.
