Colossi is the plural of collosus, which typically refers to a statue of great size or proportion or, alternately, to an enormous and powerful person.

For example, the Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone figures of the Egyptian Pharaoh Amenhotep III, that are part of the Theban necropolis near the Nile river.

Colossal, which shares the same word origin, has several meanings: 1) something resembling a colossus; 2) something extraordinarily large, powerful and impressive (a colossal rock formation); or 3) to an exceptional or astonishing degree (as in, a colossal failure).
