Blood In, Blood Out (also known as Bound by Honor) is based loosely on the experiences of Jimmy Santiago Bacca. The film centers around two half brothers, Paco and Cruz, and their bi-racial cousin Miklo. It follows their lives as they slip into a world of gangs, violence, and drugs. Miklo ends up going to San Quentin, growing up behind bars, Cruz has an amazing talent for art, but suffers from a horrifying herion addiction, and Paco becomes a cop, therefore becoming his cousin's 'natural' enemy.
It is not based on any specific trio of people but more a representation of cultural and gang ties of the Mexican people. It is more a representation of the prison gang warfare inside the California prison system and the streets.
