I would personally go with a local organization. You could check with your local churches or community organizations, and you would be better able to know what the money is used for. If you prefer to go on line there are a lot of charitable organization sites. First you might want to go to irs.gov/charities to be sure it is an approved tax exempt organization. Obviously, there can be fraudulent organizations out there that really do not sent the money where they say so be careful.
