What is the monetary unit of Ghana?
The official Ghana currency is known as the Cedi. It is divided
into one hundred Ghana Pesewas. There are also a variety of coins
that are issued in Sika denominations. Oddly, Sika has no legal
tender status . The word "Sika" means money. The new Ghana Cedi was
first unveiled in July 20078 at a rate equal to 10,000 of the old
money. At that point, it was the highest valued currency issued by
a sovereign African nation that year.
