Andrew Johnson gold dollars do not contain gold. They are regular circulation coins made of a composition of 85.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel.

Billions of brass $1 coins have been minted since 2000. You should be able to get as many as you want from most larger banks and from some change machines.

These coins are not actually gold or precious metal at all. They are worth one dollar and

can be obtained at any bank. The idea is to phase out the paper dollar which is

relatively expensive to keep in circulation since it only lasts a couple of years or so

before it wears out whereas a coin can last 25 years. The treasury will issue four

new coins per year, each honoring a president , in order. Jackson was number 7.

William Henry Harrison, number 9, is due out today ( 2/19)

$1. Presidential dollars are struck in brass, not gold, and are only worth their face value of $1.

This coin was not made in 1837. Look on the rim. It should say 2008. They are not made of gold either. They are made of brass. They are also very very common. They are worth one dollar.
