Yes, he was. So not to be confused, he was married to a much older Anne Hathaway than the one we know today.
He had one wife. Her name was Anne Hathaway(:
8Anne Hathaway was 8 years older then Shakespeare she was 26 and he was 18 when they got marriedAnne Hathaway was eight years older than Shakespeare.
Her diary is much better than the movie. You can picture much more and know more thoughts!
After she married Shakespeare, probably. He was very young and very poor when they married, and only became rich many years later. Anne came from a prosperous farming family, a much better family than the Shakespeares.
An 18-year-old William Shakespeare married 26-year-old Anne Hathaway in November 1582. At the time, she was pregnant with his child. Little is known about Anne, but many believe she was the daughter of Richard Hathaway, a farmer from Shottery, a village near Stratford-Upon-Avon. The Hathaway family home is preserved as a tourist attraction "Anne Hathaway's House", by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust which also maintains several other buildings connected to Shakespeare. Over the course of their marriage, the two had three children; Susanna, Hamnet, and Judith -- the latter two being twins. However, their only son, Hamnet, died when he was only 11. Anne herself died in 1623, outliving her husband by seven years.
Something surprising about Shakespeare's marriage was with Anne Hathaway. Anne was pregnant and was 8 years older than him. When they got married, he was only 18 and she was 26... :O Your welcome :) -An 8th grader from Rhodes c:
The 16th century Anne Hathaway (who lived well into the 17th century) was the wife of William Shakespeare the famous playwright and poet. While Shakespeare was living and working in London, Anne was living in Stratford, where their home was, looking after the children, keeping the house and trying to make ends meet. Early in Shakespeare's career, when he was struggling to earn a living, this must have been a difficult job. Later he was making more money and more steadily, and bought them a huge new house (called New Place) in Stratford. Of course looking after the big house was just that much more work for Anne. It is possible that Anne also supplemented William's income with cottage industries as many wives did, but we have no direct evidence of this.
