A third of new paper comes from recycled paper. Another third is from waste such as sawdust and scrap from lumber mills, according to the EP so the new trees only have to produce a third of the paper. A single tree can basically produce 10,000 - 20,000 sheets of standard A4 paper so I'd imagine (assuming the tissue paper is pretty thin) a single tree could probably make around 400 sets of (100 sheets in each box) tissue paper. But this isn't completely accurate, it is just an estimate of the tissue paper I personally use which could be completely different to yours. Also, not all tissue brands would use recycled paper. That could affect the results drastically. In the end, I'd like to leave a message reminding you that recycling is very important, as you can see it really makes a difference if the new trees only have to produce one third of the paper.
About 384 trees. This is how many trees are used to make the toilet paper rolls that one American uses within his or her lifetime. Here is the math: "It takes 48 full grown trees to make roughly 500 rolls of toilet paper. So using that number it takes about 1/10th of an adult grown paper tree to produce 10 rolls of toilet paper. Every American in the United States, roughly 300+ million, uses at the very least 49 rolls of toilet paper a year. That is 5 trees a person." (from http://www.trap17.com/index.php/cut-down-trees-but-grow-faster_t55053.html)
The justification for toilet rolls is to make toilet paper much easier to store and access. It is far more efficient than stacking many sheets of toilet paper on each other.
