Most Irish people speak a little bit of Irish, as it is a compulsory language in schools, although very few people outside the Gaeltacht areas speak it fluently. There are many Irish words that are used in everyday conversation in Ireland, such as Taoiseach, which is the official name of an Irish head of government. Many organisations are named in Irish and many placenames are in or come from Irish. So in many ways, people use Irish more often than they think.
