Located on the southern most tip of Florida, Key West is a
cultural melting pot and a popular tourist destination. First
visited by Spanish settlers in 1521, Key West has since blossomed
into one of Florida’s key cities. Key west, located entirely on an
island, has many unique features that keep visitors coming back for
more. Key West has a heavy Cuban influence, which is evident
through the food and architecture in the city. Despite having a
population of only 25,478, Key West is a name known throughout the
United States. Key West is famous for being the southern most point
in the continental United States. There are many activities to
partake in if you plan a trip to Key West. From surfing in the
ocean to admiring the architecture, you will never be bored in Key
West.
Arts and Entertainment
In addition to the beautiful beach and wonderful whether, Key
West also features many world renowned art and entertainment
facilities. Many of the attractions are very family-friendly. To
start, Key West is home to Key West Film Society, along with the
three theaters that accompany it. If you are a music fan, you will
love Key West. Offerings range from Islamorada’s Keys Band to Big
Pine Key’s Underwater Music Festival.

Keys Galleries features almost every kind of artwork from oil,
paint, drawing and watercolors. Many of the galleries also feature
extensive amounts of photography, outdoor studio art and exhibit
halls. Key West will also not disappoint in the literary category.
Tennessee Williams lived in Key West for most of his life, and
Robert Frost also made Key West one of his favorite tourist
destinations. Ernest Hemmingway lived in Key West in the 1930s,
writing some of his most favorite works there.
Food and Drink
Many of the food and drink venues in Key West are
family-friendly, making them great for the entire family. There are
quite a few excellent quality restaurants located in Key West. Many
of them serve traditional American food, but a few take inspiration
from nearby Cuba for their dishes. Key West is famous because of
it’s key lime pie which you can find in just about every restaurant
in the city. Another specialty found only in Key West is the Conch
Fritter.
In addition to the unique foods you can find in Key West, you
can also find many bars and restaurants. Since Key West is located
near the equator, you will get thirsty quickly. Luckily, Key West
is packed with restaurants and bars that serve very refreshing
drinks for a cheap price.
