That would be a hard question to answer. As you know, food establishments come and go every day in America. There are mom and pops and chains.

It would also depend on your definition of a restaurant. Do you consider a hot dog cart one? How about meal truck like a taco truck. Or mobile food vehicles that are parked and have table and chair set ups.

This would be a question that you would have to ask the Department of Labor, or possibly the IRS. They would probably be able to provide you with some estimates on how many. The IRS might be able to give you the number of taxable food service entities. The department of labor keeps track of the number of employees in america, wages, and their companies gross income for the year. So I am sure someone know the estimated number.

Getting someone to actually tell you would be amazing. They may not divulge that information.
