There are two types of "Dolphin"

1) the fish, the females of these have thousands of eggs during the breeding season.

2) the mammals, these do not lay eggs they produce live offspring.

The gestation period is between 11 months upto 17 months depending on the breed of Dolphin (the term dolphin covers about 40 different species)

Normally, a dolphin has only one baby. A dolphin gives birth once every 2 to 3 years. It is very rare that a dolphin has twins.
