Female chimps begin to have babies around the age of 12-14. They normally only have 1 child every 4 years or so. They usually don't live past 40 in the wild, so a female could theoretically have as many as 7 children in her life time. However, that number seems high considering that they probably take on a matriarchal position later in life and leave the child bearing to younger females in the troupe. Males on the other hand mate with numerous females, so they can theoretically have countless children.
