Cats can vary widely in length. A cat's body, from shoulder to the base of its tail, can be 12 to 16 inches long. A cat's tail can be nonexistent (in the case of a Manx cat) to about 12 inches. A cat's head is generally 4 to 5 inches from neck to nose, depending on the shape of its face. It is difficult to measure overall length, of course, because posture enters into the equation as well -- is the tail being held straight up?
