Electricity is generated by a Nuclear Power Station, but it is insufficient to meet all the City's needs. There are no longer any coal fired Power Stations in Cape Town, and the electricity required to supplement the output of the Nuclear power station is transmitted from further up country by the national utility, known as ESKOM.
Johannesburg and Cape Town receive their electricity from the South African power company, Eskom. South Africa is a modern country with a modern power grid and power plants. South African power plants include coal, hydro and nuclear plants. These plants power all cities in the country including Johannesburg/Pretoria Metro area (pop. approx: 8 million) Cape Town Metro area (pop. approx: 4 million) and Durban (pop. approx 3.5 million). Amongst other cities within the country.
Almost all of South Africa's electricity is generated by the state utility, ESKOM. Most of the power stations burn coal and are situated in the province known as Mpumulanga where there are rich coal deposits. Often the power stations are located immediately adjacent to the coalfields. There are also 4 pumped storage hydroelectric plants situated in the middle of the country and a single nuclear plant just outside Cape Town.

Yes. Many African nations have become industrialised over the past century and most, if not all African countries have electricity. Of course, large uninhabited or extremely rural areas of Africa would not have electricity. South Africa is the country in Africa that produces and consumes the most electricity.
