I got an 07. Its a pretty fast considering its power to weight ratio. I put a K&N on it which really lets the engine breathe and perform to its full almost stock potential. The stock air filter restricts a lot of power from it. It has a really good Takeoff and stays pretty solid til about 70, then the poor aerodynamics start to take over slightly. Its very unstable once you hit about 85. The steering gets very sensitive, but it is not made for high speeds, it is clearly made for the mud. it can work its way up to about 115. I heard the 2010s have a little more power nothing big. (like 10 more hp).
The FJ Cruiser is not made for speed. The top speed is going to be around 110 mph.
Toyota FJ Cruiser was created in 2006.

A partial answer is that the fj refers to the model numbers that Toyota used to refer to Land Cruisers. FJ40 was a standard land cruiser and the FJ 55 was the land cruiser wagon. I have no idea what the actual meaning of the "FJ" letters may be.
