For international postage, the item is normally picked up in the Post Office and taken in a van to the sorting center. From the center it goes onto an airplane to then reach the country destination. From the country destination it would most probably go via a van or a lorry to a sorting office which can then be either forwarded onto even more vans and lorries or, straight to your mail man!
