Disconnect the MAP sensor's electrical connecter. Connect one jumper wire between the connector and the MAP sensor's terminal "A". Connect another jumper wire from the connector to terminal "C". Connect the positive lead of a digital voltmter to terminal "B" and the negative voltmeter lead to a good engine ground. Turn the ignition to on and observe the voltage. If the reading is between 4 to 5 volts (2 to 3 volts for turbo charged) then the sensor is working fine at this point. Now, make sure the vacuum line is in good shape and doesn't have any leaks. Start the engine and let idle. The vacuum of an idling engine should pull the voltage down to around 1 or 2 volts. This test lets ya know the sensor is responding to vacuum. Are you getting a 33 or 34 error code? Replace if needed. My MAP on a 92 safari costs me $51 after tax from Orielly's. This test is cheaper to do.
Use a code reader. You can get it scanned at most chain autoparts stores for free.
